Don’t blame the referees

REFEREES are human beings and mistakes are bound to happen says Fiji Airways Fiji 7s coach Gareth Baber after the team’s training session at the Uprising Beach Resort in Pacific Harbour, Navua, yesterday.

Baber was asked if he had a talk with the match officials in regards to the forward pass to South Africa’s Siviwe Soyizwapi who touched down for a controversial try in the semi-final of the Singapore 7s which Fiji won 12-10.

Baber claimed his player Josua Vakurinabili also scored a try from a forward pass against New Zealand in the Singapore 7s.

The referees are human beings and they make calls and they sometimes get it wrong, but I live with that and we have got some which went the other way,” the Welshman said.

“If you look at the try which we scored against New Zealand where Josua throws an off-load that was forward,” Baber claimed.

“I am not going to stand and blame the referees. I know we see it one way, but I think we have to be patient with the referees and work with them.”
