Digicel explains cause of network disruptions; compensates customers
29 March, 2018, 1:05 pm
Update: 1:05PM DIGICEL Fiji has apologised to its customers for the network disruptions experienced yesterday.
The company, in a statement issued today, said the disruptions were caused by flow-on effects to a fiber outage at Digicel’s data centre in Sydney, Australia.
And as of 5pm yesterday (March 28), the network was operational and with fixes to avoid such outages in future.
This is after Digicel and supplier network engineers immediately responded to establish the cause and fix the issue to bring all services back up.
Several Digicel customers had also taken to social media platforms airing their disappointment over the disruptions to the network.
As an incentive to compensate and make amends with its customers, Digicel was in contact with customers during the outage and awarded free data bundles to all prepaid and postpaid customers once the network was restored.
“I am delighted to announce that all Digicel to Digicel calls will be free of charge for four days over the Easter long weekend for all our prepaid and postpaid customers,” Digicel Fiji CEO Michael Greig announced.
Free Digicel to Digicel calls will commence from midnight and ends Monday, April 2 at midnight.
