LELEAN Memorial School is celebrating its 75 years of existence in a grand way.

The Davuilevu school commenced its Diamond Jubilee celebrations yesterday hosted by the Lelean Old Scholars Association culminating an eventful three-day program.

The celebrations are also targeted towards a more ambitious cause of raising funds for the construction of a new school hall.

LMS vice principal Marika Sovaki said this was one of the main initiatives for this year’s celebrations.

“At the moment we have no school hall and we have a total of 1109 students and we have no proper hall for these students to sit in during assemblies and school functions which will be one of the main focuses for this year’s celebration,” he said.

Mr Sovaki said the school was estbalished in 1943 by Reverend Charles Oswald Lelean, who at the time was also the principal for the Theological College in Davuilevu.

“This 75th year anniversarry is not only for LMS but for Davuilevu as a whole,” he said.

The celebrations will end on Saturday.
