Dau sentenced to two years for abuse of office

FORMER manager for Rural Housing which was part of the Ministry of Provincial Development has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by High Court judge Justice Salesi Temo this afternoon.

Jovilisi Dau is convicted for one count of abuse of office.

The court heard that Dau directed staff under his supervision to sign and accept documents pertaining to the delivery of building materials valued at $184,000 from Central City Hardware Limited materials when only $46,081.60 worth of material was supplied.

The alleged incident occurred on July 26, 2011, in Suva.

Justice Temo said 20 families that were affected by Cyclone Thomas did not receive government assistance due to Dau’s offending.
