Dau in doubt

REWA is likely to miss the services of veteran defender Lorima Dau for the opening round of the Courts Inter-District Championship which starts this weekend.

Dau, who is carrying a niggling injury, is in doubt for the match against Nadroga to be played tomorrow at 4pm at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

Rewa Football Association president Nazeel Buksh said apart from Dau, all other players were fit and ready for the clash against the Stallions. He said the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants win had increased the expectation from the fans.

“The BOG win has obviously boosted the morale of the players but there is this added expectation from the fans for the team to win the IDC as well,” Buksh said.

“That expectation has added a bit of pressure on the players but we are handling that well.”

The Delta Tigers will be relying on youngsters Misaele Draunibaka, Ratu Tevita Waranivalu, Setareki Hughes and Garish Prasad to spearhead the team’s attack in the final tournament of the 2014 season.

The side will be captained by veteran goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau and ably supported by experienced Dau and Simione Maikali in defence.

Buksh also confirmed Suva defender Josua Wilson and Nadroga midfielder Alvin Prakash have applied for release to join Rewa.

“We are aware that they have applied for their release to join us but we can’t confirm when their transfer will be finalised.”

Buksh said coach Marika Rodu had introduced a unique training program to ensure the team underwent the best preparation in the lead-up to the IDC.

“We have adopted an unorthodox training program and Marika has really excelled in this,” Buksh said.

“Apart from the gym and the groundwork, we are also focusing on team bonding which includes canoeing and other outdoor activity to build the morale in the team.”

Rewa is pooled with defending champions Ba, Nadroga and Lautoka in Group B.
