CSOs talk accountability and legitimacy
28 March, 2018, 3:07 pm
Update: 3:07PM ACCOUNTABILITY and legitimacy relate to the ability and practice of governments and now civil society organisations to represent and or service their constituencies.
Pacific Islands Association of Non- Governmental Organisations (PIANGO) executive director Emele Duituturaga highlighted this at the 2nd Fiji CSOs Accountability workshop in Suva today.
Ms Duituturaga reminded CSOs at the workshop that accountability did not only involve auditing accounts.
“Accountability is not only about account audits. It’s also about social audit – as CSOs, are you doing exactly what you say you are doing? Are you really representing the people?” Ms Duituturaga said.
The purpose of the workshop will be focused around a consultation on zero draft code of accountability to ensure transparency of CSOs in Fiji.
The workshop, organised by the Fiji Council of Social Services and the Pacific PINAGO, ends later today.
