VEGETABLE farmers in the Nakorotari area, outside Labasa Town, have lost most of their income after the adverse weather destroyed their crops.
Farmer Mohammed Munaf Khan said his farm, which contained $7000 worth of crops, had been completely wiped away by floodwaters on Thursday last week.
Mr Khan said it was a wasted profit that was thrown down the drain, adding he could not do much as no one could control the weather.
“Vegetables in my farm that had been wiped away by the flood included bean, cabbage, okra and even eggplants,” he said.
“This used to support my family’s livelihood.”
Farmer Ileshni Kumar said they had lost half a kilogram of bean because of heavy rain, adding the crop was due for the Labasa market.
