Court suspends teenager’s sentence for burglary and theft

Update: 4:48PM AN 18-YEAR-old youth was handed down a suspended sentence this week by the High Court in Suva after he was convicted of burglary and theft.
Roko Mate had pleaded guilty to the charges laid against.
The court heard Mate had committed the offences in January this year whereby he broke into a vacant home and stole a drilling machine, a pair of shoes and a jacket – the items estimated at $700.
In passing sentence, High Court judge Justice Daniel Goundar took into consideration that Roko had cooperated with Police, the items were recovered, and that he had been remanded for 43 days.
The final sentence was 12 years imprisonment suspended for three years.
