A FATHER-OF-THREE charged with two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault has been found guilty by the High Court in Lautoka.
Andrew “Adriu” Mark Rod was revealed to be a close friend of the victim and they went to the same church.
The victim, originally from Ra, was residing in Waiyavi, Lautoka, at that time to complete her studies.
The court heard that the accused, a private mechanic, had offered the victim a ride in his car. The victim was on her way to buy detergent from a nearby shop.
Both the accused and the victim’s statements regarding this differed as the victim claimed she was not taken to her desired destination but to an isolated house in Abaca, where she was raped and spent one night and two days.
The accused, in his statements, said he was involved in a romantic relationship with the accused and she consented to sex.
Following deliberations, judge Justice Aruna Aluthge overturned the assessors not guilty verdict. He said he found the accused guilty of all charges.
