Councils not responsible

THE Ministry of Health and local municipal councils will not be responsible for cleaning up individual homes in its efforts to get rid of mosquito breeding places.
This was what Minister for Health and Medical Services Rosy Akbar said while relaunching the national clean-up campaign against dengue “Fight the Bite” in Nadi yesterday.
“Together with the local town councils the Ministry of Health is always working to ensure that we spread awareness on how best we can combat dengue,” she said.
“However, we will not be coming down to your homes. We will be coming to your communities so that you can clean up your homes.
“Please do not expect our officers to come down to your individual homes and clean up your back yard.”
She said the fight against dengue was a community effort. “There have been many a times where people have said that Government is not doing a lot.
“I would like to say to people that Government cannot do this on our own.
“My team cannot do this on their own.
“We need your support.
“This clean-up campaign started last year.
“Our awareness continues and we will keep insisting to people to clean up their homes and assist us in wiping out mosquitoes.”
