ABOUT 40 villagers from Vitogo took time out to air grievances about the cost of living during a talanoa session with members of the National Federation Party (NFP) last week.

Party president Pio Tikoduadua was joined by general secretary Jagannath Sami, provisional youth candidate Apenisa Vatuniveivuke, Ajay Kumar and other Lautoka branch members.

According to Mr Tikoduadua, NFP had plans in place to address such concerns.

“We will be introducing a living wage of $5 an hour as part of NFP policy if we make the next government,” he said.

“We will also be cutting value added tax (VAT) on 15 basic items.”

He said addressing the high cost of living was NFP’s top priority if they were elected to form the next government.

Residents raised concerns about how they struggled to make ends meet and most of those who worked on sugarcane farms did not see a profit made by working in the industry.
