Convicted grandfather jailed for rape

A 75-YEAR-old man convicted of raping his granddaughter aged 13 years in 2015 was today sentenced to 13 years imprisonment.
The accused appeared before High Court judge Justice Riyaz Hamza in Suva, charged with two counts of rape.
Justice Hamza said rape was a serious offence and the imprisonment would serve as a deterrent for other would be offenders.
The man will be eligible for parole after serving nine years.
