CONCERNS have been raised over the non-disclosure of the funds raised for charity during the week-long Sugar Festival in Lautoka last week.

Lautoka Residents and Ratepayers Association president Narayan Reddy said festival and carnival committees needed to disclose the amount raised through such events.

“Anything to do with charity and whatever amount is raised, they should disclose the amount at the end of the day,” he said.

“If it is less, people will make an effort to do better next year. They need to be transparent on that.”

He said the amount collected in the charity chest was always disclosed to the public in previous years but had changed in recent years.

Sugar Festival Committee president Pusp Raj says they would not be releasing the confirmed amount that was raised.

He added that he was also not aware of the amount raised for the cancer awareness campaign held during the festival.
