Commonwealth medalists given cash prizes

THREE Commonwealth Games medal recipients were today presented with incentives for their achievements by Government.

Weightlifters Eileen Cikamatama, Apolonia Vaivai and boxing bronze medalist Winston Hill were the recipients of the incentives.

Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou while congratulating the athletes said that the incentives are a source of encouragement for the athletes and is part of the ministry’s budget.

Cikamatana who won the only gold medal after lifting a total of 233kg in the women’s 90kg weight category received a cheque of $10,000.

Vaivai and Hill each received a $5000 cheque.
