Commander US Pacific Command to meet PM Bainimarama

THE Commander of the United States Pacific Command Admiral Phil Davidson will meet Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama this week.

A statement from the Embassy of the United States of America stated he would also meet senior Government officials and military officers on Thursday.

It is understood that Admiral Phil Davidson will discuss the important strategic partnership between Fiji and the United States and to identify new areas for cooperation.

The statement added that Admiral Davidson is the 25th Commander of United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM), America’s oldest and largest military combatant command, based in Hawai’i.

“USINDOPACOM includes 380,000 soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen, coast guardsmen and Department of Defense civilians, and is responsible for all U.S military activities in the Indo-Pacific, covering 36 nations, 14 time zones, and more than 50 per cent of the world’s population,” it stated.
