Coke Games: Young ahead of ACS

Update: 2:43PM STAND out St. Joseph’s Secondary School athlete Heleina Young is on track to win at least two gold medals at the Coca Cola National High School Athletics Championships which takes place April 19-21 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

Young has
recorded the best times this season in the intermediate girls 100m, 200m and
400m and will almost certainly anchor the SJSS intermediate girls relay team in
either the 4x100m or the 4x400m.

Recording a
new personal best in the 400m at the Easter weekend’s Athletics Fiji National
Championships, Young will get stiff competition from Adi Cakobau School whose
athletes times are very close.

While she
started her career winning gold in the 100m and 200m respectively, coach Bola
Tafoou made the Raiwaqa lass try the 400m event after injury ruled her out of
100m at the Coke Games a couple of years ago.

At this
year’s Easter Games, Young ended the 400m race exuberant after clocking 57.68
improving on her 58.01s personal best recorded at last year’s Coke Games and a
whole 2 seconds faster than fellow national representative, Serenia Ragatu of
ACS who completed the race in 1:00.36 seconds.

Helena’s
personal best time in the 100m is 12.38s just fractions of a second ahead of
closest rival Salote Baravilala of Adi Cakobau School who ran the 100m at the
Easter Games in 12.67 seconds.

The SJSS
seventh former stops the clock at 25.85 seconds in the 200m just ahead of
Ragatu who came second to her last weekend in 25.94 seconds.
