I believe both Ben Ryan and Gareth Baber have not won any prestigious 7s tournament at the height of their respective playing and coaching careers overseas but their story is different when it comes to coaching Fiji.
Baber was the immediate past former director of rugby and 7s coach for the Hong Kong national team but had not won any Hong Kong 7s tournament.
I believe they apply the same coaching techniques and tactics, methodology are the same, the professional training atmosphere and facilities are not the same compared to us, the budget finance or money factor is a big disparity, but why are the results totally different now?
What is the difference, or is it the Fijian X-Factor between coaching a Fijian national 7s team over the other nations?
I will probably have to leave this upon my fellow letter writers to contribute effectively.
No doubt in their own terms they have both performed exceptionally well in the 7s World Series competitions for Fiji and culminating in the Olympics gold for Peni Raiyani and now Baber is targeting the elusive Commonwealth 7s gold medal at the Gold Coast after our historical four-in-a-row 7s win in Hong Kong at the weekend.
Vinaka vakalevu to our victorious team members for playing their hearts out to win for their fellow country men, women and children who are now recovering from the suffering and trauma left behind by TC Josie.
