Update: 1:29PM THE Embassy of the People’s Republic of China today handed over Tropical Cyclone Josie relief and recovery equipment to the Ministry for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development, National Disaster Management, and Meteorological Service.
The donated items worth $40,000 included chainsaws, portable water pumps, water hose and rescue ropes to assist in the cleaning and rehabilitation efforts following the damaging effects of TC Josie last weekend.
In receiving the equipment, Minister responsible Inia Seruiratu thanked the Chinese government and the citizens of the People’s Republic of China for their steadfast support towards Fiji in difficult times.
“We are coming to the end of our cyclone season but let’s not just focus on cyclones. One thing that is interesting and alarming as well is the changing weather patterns and the rainfall patterns in Fiji. We are experiencing torrential rainfall within a short period of time, which causes a huge devastation,” Mr Seruiratu said.
Mr Qian assured Mr Seruiratu of China’s unwavering and reliable support whenever needed by the Fijian people.
