20 March, 2018, 6:55 pm
Update: 6:55PM CHIEF registrar Yohan Liyanage says there is more than $1 million that remains unclaimed in the Judicial Department’s maintenance accounts.
While making a presentation before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts today, Mr Liyanage said there were cases whereby monies were paid into the maintenance accounts but no one claimed it.
The Auditor-General had given a qualified report on the Judicial Department’s 2016 accounts as a result of its failure to carry out reconciliations on certain trust fund accounts.
Mr Liyanage said the department was also interested in acquiring a software that would assist them in fast-tracking their reconciliation processes.
The committee will continue its seating tomorrow with submissions from Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations and Ministry of Justice.
