TUI Nadogo Ratu Ilisaniti Malodali of Macuata applauds Government’s decision to turn his district into a potential tourism area.

Over the weekend Minister for Tourism Faiyaz Koya visited the communities of Nadogo for the bilibili race event.

Mr Koya said through the event they hoped to promote adventure tourism offerings in the country and showcase other areas of the country outside the main tourism hot spots.

Ratu Ilisaniti said the idea would definitely bring about good changes to his people and the vanua.

“Those changes will mean more job opportunities for our people and a chance to expose them to new ideas that would change their mind-set,” he said.

Ratu Ilisaniti said most of his people had the resources but lacked the knowledge.

“Getting our district involved in the tourism industry will allow us to get our roads upgraded and will allow most of the people to get out of their laid back life and work towards something new for their future,” he said.

“This whole idea came in time for us as we have always wanted to get more developments in the village.”

Ratu Ilisaniti said their district had a great spot for tourism activities.

“We can have backpackers, hotels built in the area and having a floating island and a spot for feeding turtles will help attract tourists to our district,” he said.

“In my capacity as a chief, it is my duty to look at the developments of my vanua and the wellbeing of my people and so with this new idea, I feel that it is a way of blessings for them.”
