THE winner of the Post Fiji sponsored Raiwaqa Inter-lane Basketball Tournament will pocket $500 at the Edward Hatauer Court in Raiwaqa today.

Tournament official Waisake Raicebe said they wanted to keep youths away from the crimes so they engaged them in the basketball competition.

“The competition had been very intense from the teams and they have come prepared to win the tournament,” he said.

“The competition is for the lanes in Raiwaqa and we are reviving the tournament after the Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston as the players are battling for the top place.

“We have 16 teams in the tournament which includes 10 men’s team and six women’s teams. There has been a lot of interest shown by other teams and we expect the numbers to grow. After the tournament we’ll concentrate on the development of the under-15 team.”

The teams competing in the tournament are Fiji National University, Browning Bombers, MacPacers, Crossroads, Davui Magics, Spowart Dredge, St Pius, Bryceland, Grantham and Jazz.

“The teams are fighting hard to become the number one team and the prizemoney of $500 to the men’s and the women’s winning team,” he said.

Meanwhile, the last rounds of matches were played last night where Davui Magics women’s team played FNU and in the second match Crossroads battled with Milverton.
