Campaign targets safe work environment by 2030

THE World Day for Safety and Health at Work was celebrated in Lautoka today with workers being reminded of the importance of adhering to safety and health policies in the workplace.

Chief guest Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Jone Usamate said the campaign aimed to accelerate action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal of safe and secure working environment for all workers by 2030, and the ending of all forms of child labour by 2025.

“We must aim to achieve these goals for the benefit of the next generation of workers,” Mr Usamate said.

“We need to work together to end child labour and promote a culture of prevention on occupational safety and health.”

The theme of this year’s celebrations was OHS Vulnerability of Young Workers.
