REVEREND Dr Mosese Cakau is the new Assemblies of God (AOG) of Fiji general superintendent.

Mr Cakau won 90 per cent of the votes of about 1300 ordained ministers who turned up at the Mount Zion Cathedral Church in Saru, Lautoka, for the church’s general elections and 40th Biennial General Conference celebrations.

The Calvary Temple senior pastor takes over the reign from former AOG Fiji general superintendent Reverend Pita Cili, 76, who has held the position for 15 years.

Welcoming the end of the elections yesterday, 40th Biennial General Conference manager Akini Qauqau said the appointment marked a new phase for the church.

“We had about 2000 observers during the elections and they were made up of our church members who travelled from afar to witness this process,” he said.

He said a church service to mark the official handover would be held at Saru Church this evening.

“Tomorrow night (tonight) will be a big celebration for us as we mark the end of our conference and welcome our new leader who was chosen to guide God’s people and help continue our movement.”

Mr Cakau follow in the footsteps of his father Reverend Alipate Mateyawa Cakau who was the third general superintendent from 1966.
