THE Brothers 7s club is $900 richer after they won the New Vision 7s tournament on Saturday.
The Suva-based club defeated Marist 31-12 in the final at the Suva Grammar School grounds.
In the semi-finals, Brothers had to overcome Rewa Delta 7s champions Suva Stallions 15-7 to book their place in the final.
In the other semi-final Marist edged Viwa 10-5.
Organiser Wame Ratadai said they expected 24 teams to participate in the tournament but only 13 showed up.
“The prizemoney would have been more but we saw that few teams were here and so we didn’t get enough from the entry fees to make up the total prizemoney,” he said.
“But whatever we did get from the entry fees, we paid out to the winners, Brothers — $900 and runner-up, Marist, won $400.”
Ratadai said this was the start of the sevens season and they were expecting more teams to attend the next tournament they host at the same venue.
“The next one we will have here in Suva will be on November 8.”
