Bright future ahead for surfing

THE success at the recent Vanuatu Surf Festival paints a brighter future for the Fiji Surfing Association, says FSC vice president Hannah Bennett.
Fiji won the Pacific Team Challenge ahead of Vanuatu and Japan with wonder girl Keisha Wakeham winning the under 14 and U18 girls title.
Bennett said more international exposure was needed for our surfers to counter the best surfers from around the world. And with the Olympics qualification around the corner, Bennett said she was confident of Fiji’s chances securing a spot at the next Olympics.
“Some of our surfers had never travelled out of the country so this event was a good push for them to gain passports and experience which is so important in growing the level of the sport,” she said.
“I’d like to see more Fijian surfers represent the sport on the world stage and with Olympic qualifications coming up we are confident FSA is on the right path.”
She said the Vanuatu competition was a great success for the Fijians surfers .
