Easter cricket gears up

TOP teams are expected to show their form at the Cricket Easter competition later this month. Cricket Fiji will be using the event to select players for national duty. Fiji will participate in the Sub-Regional World top 20 qualifier in August. Sixteen teams in the men’s category and 12 women’s teams are part of the Esater competition. Teams such as Namuka-i-Lau, Komo, Army will be on show at the Easter competition in Suva. It ends on March 26.

Baber rakes in Tamani

Domestic 7s campaigner and Tabadamu halfback Terry Tamani is set to make his biggest rugby break. The Kadavu man has been called up by coach Gareth Baber into the Fiji Airways Fiji 7s training camp. Baber is yet to name his team for the Hong Kong 7s next month. In an earlier report, Baber is likely to change his earlier decision of featuring two teams at the Commonwealth Games and the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Hong Kong. Fiji is pooled with New Zealand, Samoa and Russia in the Hong Kong 7s from April 6-7.

Naiyaravoro, Daugunu score

Yasawa giant and NSW Waratahs winger Taqele Naiyaravoro scored two tries for his side. The Fiji born winger and former rugby league player was instrumental in his side’s big win over the Melbourne Rebels 51-27 Sunday night, rugby.com.au reported. Also a try to Filipo Daugunu helped his Queensland-based side defeated the Jaguares 18-7. The Reds have now recorded three straight win.

Fiji prepares for first Test

The Vodafone-sponsored football side has arrived and went through its first training session in Manila. The team is preparing for its first game against the Philippines tonight.

Wellington Phoenix star and striker Roy Krishna is expected to show his class against the host side.

Teams set for league clashes

Top of the table and inform team in the Vodafone Senior League, Lami will travel to Lawaqa Park to face Nadroga at 3pm on Sunday in one of the most anticipated clashes. In an exciting northern derby, Savusavu will battle Seaqaqa at 2.30pm at the Buca Sports ground. Rakiraki is expecting fireworks from Nasinu at 2pm at the FSC Grounds while Navua will host Northland Tailevu at 3pm at the Uprising Beach Resort grounds in Pacific Habour, Deuba.
