Taliban hostage

OTTAWA – A Canadian court on Wednesday postponed a bail hearing for former Taliban hostage Joshua Boyle, who was arrested and faces criminal charges including assault, sexual assault and forcible confinement.

The charges are for crimes prosecutors said occurred after Boyle and his family returned to the country last October.

Irish stabbing

DUBLIN – Irish police are investigating whether the fatal stabbing of a Japanese man in a series of apparently random and unprovoked attacks in the northeastern town of Dundalk on Wednesday is related to terrorism.

Police arrested an 18-year-old Egyptian and two other men were injured in the attacks.

Crash toll

LIMA – At least 48 people were killed in Peru when a bus collided with a truck and careened off a cliff along a sharply curving highway north of the capital Lima.

The accident took place on the Panamericana Norte highway near Pasamayo on the Pacific coast on Tuesday.
