PM urges lawyers

GOVERNMENT has put public access to information, and to the law, at the core of its democracy, says Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama. Speaking at the 19th Attorney-General’s Conference, he said that was why his government had strived to adopt new and innovative ways to ensure that every Fijian was armed with the necessary information to know their rights.
Compensation Act
CONSUMER Council of Fiji CEO Premila Kumar said the soon-to-be-enacted Accident Compensation Act would ensure road accident victims had redress mechanisms. “If a matter goes to court, ambiguity of the law has not been in favour of victims sometimes,” she said while speaking at the Attorney-General’s Conference.
