THE Ballantine Memorial School rugby team is preparing for the Fiji Secondary Schools Girls Sevens tournament to be held at the ANZ Stadium in Laucala Bay, Suva this weekend.

After being beaten by Sacred Heart College in the final of the southern zone competition, the team is preparing well both physically and mentally for the tournament.

Team manager Lice Kavika said they had been training hard and the coaching staff had been preparing the girls for a competitive match.

“For the games on Saturday, we are coming in as underdogs,” she said.

“We believe that other teams are coming in prepared and everyone will be bringing in their best game.

Kavika said they were not going to undermine any team. “We have girls in the team who represented Fiji in the last Commonwealth Youth Games,” Kavika said.

The girls we have been training, have been taught with the basics of rugby when they started Year 9,” she said.

“We do not know yet which team we will be facing but I have told the girls that every match we play counts.”
