Bid to promote good health among youth

ABOUT 40 participants were part of a health awareness program organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports for youths on Moturiki Island to develop strategies in promoting good health to the youths.
The awareness program was facilitated by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services together with peer educators.
It also focused on providing visual improvement on the health of both women and children.
Minister for Youth and Sports, Laisenia Tuitubou encouraged youths, women and children to utilise the lessons learnt and promote healthy living.
“We are trying to maximise on our outreach training and awareness program so that we are able to reach our target audience and disseminate information accordingly,” Mr Tuitubou said.
“The health awareness program is intended to provide information to our youths on the importance of developing healthy lifestyles.”
He added the awareness program also intended to address and implement four of the eight millennium development goals which were to promote gender equality and empower women, to improve maternal health, to combat HIV and AIDS including other diseases and to also ensure environmental sustainability.
Youth Leader from Nasesara Village, Makisi Tamanitokula said not only did the awareness program concentrate on improving the status of healthy living but it also made her appreciate the contribution of women in the community.
Senior divisional medical officer, Dr Charlie Rasue said the training was a success as positive responses were received.
