WITH this year’s election date soon to be released, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says the old forces of division, corruption and bad governance are again rearing their ugly heads. He made the statement while speaking at the Victorian Multicultural Sports Association business event in Melbourne, Australia on Sunday.

Mr Bainimarama said with the second parliamentary elections to be held this year, the onus was now on the Fijian people to defend all that was achieved in the past decade.

“It is up to the Fijian people to stand up and defend our nation, our people, our common and equal citizenry, and all we have achieved over this past decade,” he said.

Mr Bainimarama said he was also ready to make life better for all Fijians.

“I know you are here because you all vested in Fiji, you want your nation to stay on the path of prosperity, and you want your fellow Fijians to continue to do well,” he said.

“I stand ready to keep our nation on that path, I stand ready to keep our people at the centre of our national progress and development, and I stand ready to make life better for every Fijian, everywhere in Fiji,” he added.
