Update: 7:53PM MEMBERS of the public are advised to be extra vigilant if they’re living close to coastal areas or planning to spend a day out on the beach this weekend or early next week.
This is after a statement by the Fiji Meteorological Service issued this evening said ex-TC Keni continues to generate and direct damaging heavy swells over Fiji Waters and the low lying coastal areas.
A damaging heavy swell warning remains in force the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, Southwest Viti Levu (Lautoka to Sigatoka), Coral Coast to Pacific Harbour, Kadavu, Beqa, Vatulele, Lomaiviti and Lau Group.
Expect swell heights from 3 to 4.5 meters over open waters, which is very likely to cause sea flooding of low lying coastal areas especially during high tide.
Mariners are also advised to take extreme care if they are out at sea, it will also be unsafe for small vessels to venture out.
As the weatherman say winds becoming predominantly southeasterly and increasing to 20 to 25 knots from the afternoon today with rough seas and damaging heavy southerly swells.
