FIJI’S beach volleyball teams and players have acclimatised themselves to the Gold Coast weather ahead of their opening matches at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia today.
The men’s team of India Korowale and debutant Sairusi Cavula will take on hosts Australia tonight, while woman’s team of Laite Nima and Iliseva Ratudina will also play Canada tonight.
“All is set to roll,” coach Todd Edwards said after a training session.
“We came here to get used to the weather and the heat. The players have so far shown a lot of commitment and determination.
“We have taken the past few days to work on some fine points of the game.”
The task at hand is tough for the volleyball players, but Edwards is confident of pulling a surprise on the day.
“We know we are up for a tough competition, but both teams are performing well,” he said.
“The competition venue has a big seating capacity and we had a chance to play warm up games and the nerves have settled well.”
