Ban Ki-moon welcomes peaceful Fijian election

Update: 2:25PM THE Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, has welcomed the peaceful conduct of Fiji’s parliamentary elections on September 17.
In a statement issued today, he commended the people of Fiji for exercising their constitutional right to vote.
The secretary-general also encouraged all to continue to maintain the peaceful atmosphere throughout the rest of the electoral process and to resolve any disputes that might arise through the established legal process.
He said he hoped this election will mark an important step forward for the country’s transition to democracy.
