BA Provincial Free Bird Institute boys team will be aiming to improve its performance at the National Secondary Schools Hockey Championship next month.
This is after Ba Provincial finished third in the Western Zone competition yesterday.
The side defeated Natabua 1-0 and then lost to St Thomas High School by the same score line.
Ba Provincial coach Ernest Coffin said the school had qualified for the national championship after a long time.
Coffin said the players needed to sharpen their skills in order to tackle the bigger known schools in the sport.
“The school has excelled in rugby union and rugby league,” he said.
“Now they have made a comeback in hockey and there is a lot of potential. The players need the right guidance to get the basics right on the field.”
St Thomas finished in second position ahead of Ba Provincial on goal differential. Natabua and Xavier College have also qualified for the national event.
Nadi’s Sangam SKM College topped the girls U19 division.
