Ba Golf Club to host event

THE Meenoo’s and Style Check Ltd-sponsored 18 holes stroke event at the FSC Ba Golf Club today will serve as the practise round for next weekend’s Ba Open Championship.

Golfers from Nadi, Lautoka, Ba and Vatukoula are expected to turn up at the Rarawai course for the hit-out.

Rohit Chandra and Asish Chandra will lead the home charge.

Airports Fiji Limited fireman Anuresh Chandra, who holds the record winning the Ba Open for seven consecutive years, will be amongst the players from Nadi acclimatising to the conditions.

Chandra won the titles from 2005 to 2011. He eclipsed EA Allman’s record of six consecutive victories from 1961 to 1966.

Club treasurer Rajesh Prasad said only 100 golfers would be accommodated for the major event next week.

Prasad said they expect a big turn-out today.

“It will be the only chance to test the course competitively,” he said.

“Sunday’s tournament is the final one before the big one so we have opened up the field for the other club members. They can participate and gauge their performance ahead of next week.”

The RC Manubhai sponsored Ba Open Championship will be played from September 27-28.
