THE Australian government gave 1000 WASH Kits to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services at Denim House in Toorak this morning.

Australia’s deputy high commissioner to Fiji Amy Crago, said these kits were essential to supporting the work of the ministry’s environmental health unit in post-disaster situations.

“In emergency situations, access to clean water and functioning sanitation is vital. Contaminated water and unhygienic sanitation facilities can lead  to diseases and even death,” Ms Crago said.

She added the kits contained essential items such as collapsible water cans, water purification tablets and  sanitary pads.

The portion of the kits would be distributed to families affected by the two recent cyclones in the Western Division and in Kadavu.
