Athletics on track

TEAM Fiji athletics to the Commonwealth Games in Australia is on the right path of springing success at Gold Coast next week.

Team athletics returned home from Australia yesterday after three weeks training ‘Down Under.’

Athletics Fiji chief development officer Joseph Rodan Jr said the team returned with good news.

“Our athletes have improved such as Aaron Powell who had been running consistently around 10.6 and 10.7 seconds. We also have Kameli Ravuci Seduadua who used to clock 49.8 seconds in the 400 metres is now running on 48.4 seconds,” Rodan Jr said.

He said the new results were obtained because our athletes trained in the best environment and conditions.

“The intensity of training is very high in Australia compared with what they go through in Fiji.

“The level of training has gone up in terms of the daily sessions and full training sessions. The athletes trained in the gym, had pool recovery sessions and had access to physio.

“They also competed in weekly competitions.”

Rodan Jr said the athletes had a thorough preparation.

Team Fiji contingent, meanwhile, will depart for the Commonwealth Games on Friday.
