THE High Court in Suva today granted an appeal by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption against a former police officer Sanita Laqenisiga.

Mr Laqenisiga who is charged with two counts of bribery was acquitted by Suva Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara.

Thushara Rajasinghe has ordered a re-trial in the matter.

It is alleged that Mr Laqenisiga whilst being a police constable accepted an advantage of $300 during an investigation sometime in February, 2014 in Suva.

FICAC lawyer Rashmi Aslam filed the appeal on the ground that the magistrate made an error in law by not analysing the evidence.

The matter has been adjourned to September 4, before the Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili to appoint a new magistrate for the matter.
