ALL village nurses registered with the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs and Ministry of Health will start receiving monthly allowances of $75 from August.

Ministry of iTaukei Affairs permanent secretary Naipote Katonivere said the monthly allowance request had been submitted by the Ministry of Economy for the 2018/2019 National Budget, and with the budget expected to be announced on June 22 this year, village nurses would start receiving their allowance in August.

The question on allowances for village nurses was raised by the Tailevu South village nurse president, Nanise Cakaunitabua, who said village nurses assisted nurses stationed at health centres by looking after the population located within their medical area.

She said Tailevu South alone had 107 registered village nurses.
