Alleged illegal job recruitment drive

POLICE in Sigatoka have questioned an iTaukei woman in relation to an alleged illegal employment recruitment drive conducted in Nadroga recently.
The Fiji Times understands that the woman has been working with a recruitment agency that illegally set up office in the country about four years ago.
It is also understood that the woman was allegedly involved in an illegal recruitment drive where money was collected from thousands of people with the promise of overseas jobs.
She was taken in for questioning over the weekend after a joint operation between the Fiji Police Force and the Employment, Industrial Relations and Productivity Ministry.
In response to questions sent by this newspaper, police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said she was unable to release details about the case because investigations were ongoing.
“The lady in question was brought in for questioning yesterday (Saturday) and released as investigations continue,” she said.
“I can’t confirm numbers right now as investigations are still underway and in its initial stages.”
