LAUTOKA businessman Raben Singh marked the one-year anniversary of his wife Sashi Singh’s death with contributions to two organisations yesterday.

Accompanied by his son, Mr Singh visited the Lautoka School for Special Education students and the Golden Age Home residents to mark the special day.

“My wife was always very committed to helping our community so we wanted to do something like this in her memory,” he said. “I remember that she always wanted to help other people whenever she could. “With my son, we want to continue the work she has done for our family and for our community.”

Mr Singh’s son, Shiv Bhan, said remembering his mother was an emotional time for his family.

“Just the past few days we have been doing prayers at home and all of our family came from all over the country and overseas to be here,” he said.

“We wanted to do something at the end of her anniversary that was close to her heart and I am very happy that our family agreed to do something for our community.”

Lautoka School for Special Education assistant headteacher Kailash Pillay said the students would benefit from the Singh family’s generosity.

“I am truly grateful to Mr Singh and his family for giving us items on our wish list,” he said.

Stationery were given to the Sunshine Special School while warm beddings were handed over to residents of the Golden Age Home in Natabua.
