SOCIAL Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) parliamentarian Viliame Gavoka says while he acknowledged the Government’s assistance in resolving land ownership concerns raised by Vaturu Dam landowners, there was a need to look at other areas concerning the issue.
Speaking in Parliament on Monday this week, Mr Gavoka said iTaukei landowners were initially informed that they would be allowed to develop or run tourism-related businesses around the dam area.
However, he said when they approached authorities, they were informed that no such activity was allowed.
Mr Gavoka said while he commended the Committee on Natural Resources for addressing the ownership issue, opportunities for landowners to engage in businesses had to be addressed.
