NATIONAL Federation Party (NFP) leader Professor Biman Prasad is desperate, says Attorney-General and FijiFirst party general secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

He made the comment in response to a statement issued by the NFP leader, calling on Mr Sayed-Khaiyum to make public that Constitutional Offices Commission member, Sanjay Kaba, was part of the interviewing panel for the party’s candidates for this year’s general election.

Prof Prasad had also called on Mr Kaba to resign from the commission because of his alleged involvement.

In his response, Mr Sayed- Khaiyum said there were other Opposition politicians who were also members of the commission and involved in their respective parties.

“He doesn’t say that about Rabuka (Sitiveni Rabuka), who is also a member of the Constitutional Offices Commission. He also runs his political party and selects his own candidates,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“Why is he picking on Sanjay Kaba? This man is desperate. I think politically, they are very desperate.”

When contacted for a comment last week, Mr Kaba preferred not to comment on claims made by NFP.

“I don’t want to make any comments regarding anything, to be honest,” Mr Kaba said.

However, Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa confirmed yesterday that Mr Rabuka was not a member of the commission as her office had not received any official correspondence from the commission. Ro Teimumu nominated Mr Rabuka as her nominee to the commission last year.
