VILLAGERS on Galoa Island in Lekutu, Bua are requesting Government if water carted to the island by boat could be transferred to them on land via pipes.

Head of the Galoa tribe Napolioni Saraqia said carting water by boats to land was a waste because most of the water spilled while ferrying the containers to land.

Mr Saraqia said the services of the boat carting water, namely the MV Sigavou, could be improved.

“Imagine containers of water returning from the trips with nearly half of its content lost as a result of the carting methods used by those transporting water,” he said.

Another villager, Taniela Vosakece, said they had initially requested if water could be transferred to them via pipes because it was efficient and there was also less wastage.

Mr Vosakece said people needed to work smart during times of need.

The issue of water carting was raised to Fisheries Minister Semi Koroilavesau in Cikobia last month who labelled the practice as negligent.

Mr Koroilavesau said he would address the issue with authorities concerned.
