7.7 magnitude earthquake recorded in Fiji region

A 7.7 MAGNITUDE earthquake was recorded in the Fiji region a little after midday today.

The Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources department in Suva confirmed this seismic activity that occurred at 12.19pm at a depth of 209km.

The earthquake was located 62km Northeast from Waiqori Village in Lau, 327km Southeast from Labasa, and 373km West from Suva, Fiji.

The department stated that the major felt earthquake occurred at a deep depth in the Lau region.

And it said this seismic activity did not pose any immediate threat to the Fiji region.

No damage reports have been received when this edition was published online.
