7.5 magnitude earthquake recorded in Fiji’s Lau region

A MAJOR 7.5 MAGNITUDE earthquake was recorded in the Lau region early this morning.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 664km, recorded 38km Southwest from Maloku Village in Moala, 46km Southeast from Gau Island, and 114km Southeast from the capital city Suva.

No damage reports have been received, nor any indication by the Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources Department that it had received the same.

The Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources Department has assured that this seismic activity did not pose any immediate threat to the Fiji region.
