FIJI’S Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama commissioned the $500,000 Vio Island Pipeline Project this afternoon in Lautoka.

The project has resulted in water from the mainland being piped through a 650m line from the Water Authority of Fiji’s reticulation system on the mainland to Vio Island.

Previously, the 250-plus residents used to cart water filled in containers from the Lautoka Fisheries Wharf to the island for drinking, cooking and washing.
