5.6 magnitude earthquake strikes near Tonga

A sharp earthquake has struck Tonga near an outer island in the Ha’apai group.

The 5.6 magnitude quake was just 10 kilometres in depth and hit just before 1pm.

The village has a population of just under 2000 people.

The region has been hit by 10 earthquakes in the past month.

There was another 5.6 magnitude quake of the same depth three weeks ago.
