5.3 mag earthquake in PNG region

A MODERATE 5.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Papua New Guinea’s Rabaul region this afternoon.

The seismic activity occurred at 2:32pm at a shallow 10km depth.

The Mineral Resources department in Suva said the earthquake was registered at 183km South from Rabaul, PNG; 654km Northeast from Port Moresby, PNG; 974km Northwest from Honiara, Solomon Island and 3194km Northwest From Suva, Fiji.

The department cleared any immediate threat associated with this seismic activity.

But will keep monitoring for any further updates
